Founded in the summer of 1947 by Late Netai Lal Saha, Adi Dhakeswari Bastralaya began as a symbol of tradition and craftsmanship, embodying the rich textile heritage of the Bengali people. Originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh, the Saha family relocated to Kolkata before Partition, bringing with them an enduring passion for sarees and a vision to celebrate traditional weaving practices. Established at the bustling Gariahat Junction, Adi Dhakeswari Bastralaya quickly became a cherished destination for women seeking both elegance and authenticity in their sarees.
Netai Lal Saha’s commitment to quality and love for textiles inspired not only his customers but also his son, the late Nirmal Saha, who joined the business at a young age. Although his journey was cut short, the legacy continued when Netai Lal Saha’s grandson, Sanjoy Saha stepped into the business with the same passion and drive. At just 18, Sanjoy carried forward the family vision and expanded it, eventually opening a second branch at Triangular Park in 2007—a first-of-its-kind, fully air-conditioned multi-storied saree mall in Kolkata.
Adi Dhakeswari Bastralaya proudly offers a wide selection of sarees, lehengas, and traditional attire, specializing in Benarasi, Tant, Silk and many more. With each generation, we aim to serve our customers better while preserving the values our founders instilled. As we continue this journey, we are grateful for the blessings of the Almighty and the ongoing support of our valued patrons, whom we look forward to serving for generations to come.
